Destinazione: Doel, paese abbandonato di origine medievale, sorge nell’area portuale di Anversa a ridosso di una delle più grandi centrali nucleari europee ancora attive. Gli interessi espansionistici del porto fecero sì che il paese si andasse spopolando. Le abitazioni dei quasi 1700 cittadini furono acquistate dalla società che si sarebbe dovuta occupare della demolizione e del conseguente ampliamento del porto. Vani i tentativi di riqualifica della zona portati avanti dagli ultimi irriducibili abitanti e anche da artisti di rilevanza internazionale.

Destination: Doel, it is an abandoned village located in the harbour area of Antwerp, close to one of the largest European nuclear power plants still active. The expansionist interests of the harbour led to the depopulation of the town. The houses of the almost 1700 citizens were purchased by the company that was supposed to take care of the demolition and the consequent expansion of the harbour. The area’s redevelopment attempts were carried out by the last irreducible inhabitants and by artists of international reputation as well.
