Poche notizie siamo riusciti a reperire riguardo questa villa abbandonata ma esplorandola abbiamo respirato un’ atmosfera particolarmente malinconica. L’abbiamo soprannominata Beata Solitudo perché questa è l’ iscrizione che si trova su uno dei suoi caminetti. Cercando informazioni su questa villa e sulla sua singolare frase ci siamo imbattuti in una battaglia letteraria sulla paternità della stessa che vede il contrapporsi di studiosi, troviamo chi l’assegna a Seneca chi a San Bernardo. Non si hanno evidenze storiche che attribuiscano questo detto a uno dei due mentre invece si hanno notizie di un documento di un poeta vissuto nel XIV sec. che recita così :

“O beata solitudo
O sola beatitudo
Piis secessicolis!
Quam beati candidati
Qui ad te volant alati
Porro ab mundicolis!”

Ci piace immaginare Villa Beata Solitudo costruita e abitata da chi, per fuggire alla mondanità di un tempo che più non gli apparteneva, vi si rifugiava al suo interno aspirando alla beatitudine e alla purificazione.

We couldn’t find any news about this abandoned villa but exploring it we breathed very melancholic atmosphere. We named it Villa Beata Solitudo because this is the inscription on one of its fireplaces. Looking for information about this villa and its inscription, we came across a literary debate about its authorship: Seneca or Saint Bernard. There is no historical evidence that attributes it this to one or the other one, while there is a document from a poet lived in the 14th century that says this:

“O beata solitudo
O sola beatitudo
Piis secessicolis!
Quam beati candidati
Qui ad te volant alati
Porro ab mundicolis!”

We like to imagine Villa Beata Solitudo built and lived by somebody who, to flee from society, was reaching for bliss and purification.
