Costruito tra il 1940 e il 1941 ma mai terminato (sarebbe dovuto essere di tipo “A”, spesa iniziale di 1.580.000 Lire), borgo Domenico Borzellino è situato in posizione dominante sulla valle che lo ospita. Il borgo abbandonato è costituito da 6 fabbricati: municipio, ufficio postale, caserma dei carabinieri, scuola, trattoria, botteghe per artigiani, alloggi per gli addetti ai vari servizi. Negli anni successivi alla sua costruzione, il borgo fu oggetto di numerosi interventi di manutenzione straordinaria per la riparazione dei danni bellici e per la sostituzione dei materiali strutturali di scarsa qualità. Nel 2010 venne presentato, presso l’Assessorato regionale ai Beni culturali e alla Identità siciliana, il progetto esecutivo per trasformare il borgo abbandonato Domenico Borzellino in un polo turistico e culturale a servizio dell’intero comprensorio. Tale progetto fu approvato definitivamente dalla Commissione edilizia Comunale con un importo di 5 milioni di Euro (P.O.R. 2007/2013) e prevedeva il recupero degli edifici e degli spazi esterni per essere destinati a realizzare un cineforum, un teatro e spazi musicali ed espositivi.

Ad oggi il borgo rimane abbandonato.

Built between 1940 and 1941 but never completed (it should be a “A” type village, with a starting cost of 1,580,000 Lire), the village Domenico Borzellino is situated above the valley that hosts it. The abandoned village consists of 6 buildings: town hall, post office, police station, school, restaurant, shops for craftsmen, accommodation for the workers in the various services. During the years after its construction, the village was the subject of numerous extraordinary maintenance to repair it from war damage and to replace structural materials of poor quality. In 2010 it was presented, at the Regional Department for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, the executive project to turn the abandoned village Domenico Borzellino into a tourist and cultural center in the whole district. This project was finally approved by the Municipal Building Commission with the amount of 5 millions Euro (P.O.R. 2007/2013) included the recovery of buildings and outdoor areas to achieve a film club, a theater and places for music and exhibitions.

Nowadays, the village remains abandoned.
